Meet Our President & Founder
Michele' E. Lawlis

Michele' E. Lawlis founded The DIVA Institute, Inc. (TDI) to inspire young women and single (unwed) mothers to overcome their circumstances and boldly pursue an enhanced quality of life for themselves and their children. After facing her own challenges with childhood adversity and single parenthood, Ms. Lawlis was called to devote her efforts toward empowering others to do the same. She encourages young women to focus on reaching their highest individual potential and building healthy relationships before pursuing marriage and motherhood. Ms. Lawlis also advocates that with faith, self-determination & access to adequate resources, single mothers can achieve a level of personal responsibility that allows them to have a strong impact on communities through effectively managing their lives, families & careers.

As a professional coach and certified trainer on diversity, women's issues & youth empowerment, Ms. Lawlis has created a reputation for TDI as the trainer of choice for many single mothers and young women. Her compassion, transparency, and emphasis on "keeping it real" instantly create an environment that embraces those who are ready to embark upon the journey of change. As a powerful and highly sought after public speaker, Ms. Lawlis has motivated thousands to unleash their inner DIVA. She believes whole-heartedly in the concept of servant leadership, and is noted for delivering thought-provoking keynotes that move listeners to reconsider their commitments to self, family and community. Students, educators, social service providers, church leaders, entrepreneurs and community leaders have also been inspired by TDI seminars & presentations.

In addition to personal experience as a working single mother and servant leader, Ms. Lawlis has over 15 years of experience in the diverse areas of government, civil rights enforcement, family services & mediation, workforce development & non-profit grant administration. She has also served on various boards for organizations  promoting diversity, youth development, higher education & community engagement. Ms. Lawlis has been recognized by local & national Who's Who associations, public schools, faith-based and community organizations for her dedication to empowering women from diverse backgrounds. She is co-author of the 2007 international release Beyond the Body! Developing Inner Beauty. Ms.  Lawlis is also a featured author providing perspectives on behalf of single mothers in Learning to Love Yourself: A Handbook for the African American Woman, and Raising African American Boys, both scheduled for release in 2009 by PWN Publishing. Ms. Lawlis is an appointed member of the International Advisory Board & Speakers Bureau of the Professional Woman Network (PWN). PWN is an international training & consulting organization with a global membership of over 2,300 representing 14 countries.

Her secret to success is simple: "Never forget where you came from, so you'll always know where you must go."
